Braised Cabbage

It is sometimes the simplest dishes that receive the most praise. We can slave away over complicated sides and the buttered green beans get rave reviews. In the spirit of simple and delicious, this Braised Cabbage is the so effortless in its preparation that your dinner guests won’t believe you barely put in 10 minutes at the start. Yields: 6 servings


  • 1 medium head green cabbage cut in half, core removed, sliced
  • 1 cup low-sodium vegetable (or chicken) broth1
  •  tsp. sea salt
  • ¼ tsp. ground black pepper


  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. Place cabbage in large baking dish; top with broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cover baking dish tightly with foil.
  4. Bake for 1 hour, turn cabbage wedges with tongs. Bake for 15 to 20 additional minutes, or until cabbage is tender.
